Research Assistant in Functional Genomics

The Friedrich Miescher Institute for Biomedical Research (FMI) is a world-leading international research center with 350 members aimed at understanding the basic molecular mechanisms of health and disease. The FMI is affiliated with the University of Basel and the Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research. It is situated in Basel, Switzerland, a city in the center of Europe offering a rich scientific and cultural environment. Supporting the FMI scientists in their research are a number of outstanding technology platforms, including the core facility for Functional Genomics, which is looking for an experienced 


Research Assistant in Functional Genomics


In this position you will


  • Prepare Illumina sequencing libraries for users of the facility and run the sequencing instruments.
  • Provide advice on experimental design and library preparation to FMI scientists.
  • Closely interact with the team for efficient project and laboratory management.
  • Ensure the quality of existing protocols and implement new methods for specialized NGS applications in collaboration with research groups.

For this exciting position you


  • Have a broad, hands-on expertise in NGS protocols. Experience with single-cell methods or automated liquid handlers is a plus.
  • Enjoy working in a scientific service environment.
  • Have great team spirit, together with an independent and pro-active working attitude.
  • Have excellent communication and collaborative skills.
  • Have great organizational skills with a keen attention to detail and the ability to perform complex experiments with a high degree of consistency.
  • Are fluent in English.
