Kari Alitalo received his PhD and MD degree from the University of Helsinki, Finnland. After research experiences at the University of Washington in Seattle and the University of California in San Francisco, he returned to Finnland and is now the Director of the Molecular/Cancer Biology Center of Excellence at the University of Helsinki. His lab is interested in tyrosine kinase signaling in endothelial cells and how these signaling pathways are used in embryonic and in tumor angiogenesis. The unraveled molecular mechanisms of angiogenesis and lymphangiogenesis are the basis for molecular therapies for lymphedema in trial. Read more...
