Volker Brinkmann

Dr. Volker Brinkmann is a Senior Research Investigator in the Autoimmune Department of the Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research located in Basel, Switzerland. He studied Biology and Chemistry in Marburg and in Freiburg, Germany, and received his PhD in Microbiology and Immunology from the Philipps University of Marburg, Germany, in 1984. During later appointments at the Max-Planck-Institute of Immunobiology in Freiburg, at Stanford University, USA, and at Ciba-Geigy, Switzerland, his research focused on immune mechanisms of infection, allergy, organ graft rejection and autoimmunity. In 1997, he joined Novartis where his current research is focussed on immune cell trafficking and the development of novel drugs for the treatment of autoimmune diseases.
