Student life

The FMI has an active student body, which is supported by a PhD student representative committee that is elected each year. FMI PhD students participate in the FMI Annual Meeting to discuss science and hear presentations from postdocs, students and group leaders, and organize annual PhD retreats as well as seminar series where they invite external scientific speakers of their choice. Together with postdocs, FMI PhD students also organize social activities such as Happy Hours and BBQs, and career events and excursions.

Basel is an important international center for biomedical research with multiple academic research institutes as well as many pharmaceutical and biotechnology firms. Located at the borders of France and Germany, FMI PhD students study in a multicultural environment with very good opportunities to start an international career.

Basel is also rich in culture and an excellent location to explore Switzerland and neighboring France and Germany.
