Botond Roska receives SNSF Consolidator Grant

Botond Roska, Group leader at the Friedrich Miescher Institute for Biomedical Research, has been awarded an SNSF Consolidator Grant. The installation of these grants is the second transitional measure for the Swiss research community after the exclusion of Switzerland from the European Research Council (ERC) Horizon 2020 program. The Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) is awarding 21 SNSF Consolidator Grants to determined young scientists, with funding’s up to two million francs for five years.

Botond Roska is a renowned expert in neurobiology. He has contributed substantially to the better understanding of the visual processes. In addition, he has spearheaded a new therapeutic approach for the treatment of retinitis pigmentosa, a rare disease of the retina. In his studies he uses an inter-disciplinary approach and combines physiological, molecular, viral and computational approaches to reveal the structure and function of retinal neuronal circuits.
